The national leader of the PRI, Alejandro Moreno, asserted that annulment of the election would allow for dialogue to make modifications to the judicial reform. PRI legislators submitted a challenge to the Electoral Institute (INE) regarding the irregularities detected during the election held on June 1st, including the distribution of cheat sheets to influence the vote.

Led by the national PRI leader, Alejandro Moreno, the legislators stated that the lawsuit for the protection of political-electoral rights is presented as citizens, since political parties cannot challenge acts related to the judicial electoral process. «Alito» Moreno assured that, in the event of annulment, the party would be willing to discuss modifications to the judicial reform.
«Do they want dialogue? We must go for the annulment of the election and propose reforms that enhance transparency, equity, autonomy, and the expertise of a prepared and trained judiciary that can instill certainty and assurance in the people of Mexico,» he said. «The only solution is the annulment of the judicial election process. The Constitution and electoral laws empower the Electoral Court to declare elections null when serious irregularities that are fraudulent and decisive are proven,» he declared. Alejandro Moreno accused that the ‘crib sheets’ distributed before and on the day of the electoral day were part of an illegal strategy to take control of the Judiciary, which constituted covert propaganda to undermine the equity of the process.

«The results confirm it: those who appeared on the ballots were the ones who won. Not one more, not one less. This represents a breach of the principle of democratic equity,» he stated. «Our challenge is based on the blatant, on the greatest violation of constitutional principles, because far from strengthening the rule of law, this process has clearly imposed itself upon us from the government of Morena,» he emphasized.
In addition to approaching the Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation (TEPJF), the PRI leader anticipated that, if necessary, they would also approach international bodies to denounce the irregularities observed before and during the process. «We listened to the people of Mexico, which is why we are contesting the judicial election, because justice cannot be at the service of power nor submit to political interests,» he said.
«We will not allow abuses to be normalized nor authoritarianism to be imposed. We will fight back, with courage, with determination, and directly to the people,» he added.
