The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Monday that he made ‘a great decision’ by sending the National Guard to control the riots in California that erupted over the weekend due to his immigration policies.
«If we hadn’t done it, Los Angeles would have been completely devastated,» Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
«The incompetent governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass should say, ‘Thank you, President Trump, you are wonderful. We would be nothing without you, sir.’ Instead of lying to the people of California by saying they do not need the National Guard,» he added.
After three days of protests in California’s largest city, Governor Gavin Newsom launched harsh accusations against Donald Trump, whom he called ‘a cold stone liar,’ after Trump ordered the deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles without consulting him.
The measure —which mobilized federal troops in key areas of the city— was justified by the president as a response to a supposed ‘migrant invasion.’ However, Newsom denounced it as a premeditated and flagrantly illegal provocation.’The order required coordination with my office. There was none. He lied and acted above the Constitution,’ said the governor, who announced a lawsuit against the Trump administration for violating protocols and state powers. ‘We are cleaning up his mess,’ he added, pointing out that the chaos in the streets is a direct consequence of the incendiary rhetoric of the president.

The military deployment marks a significant escalation in the federal response to immigration protests in California. Although it is not the first time the National Guard has been activated in Los Angeles —it happened during events such as the riots in 1992, the earthquake in 1994, or the protests over the murder of George Floyd in 2020— this mobilization has generated a strong backlash from state authorities and civil organizations.
Governor Newsom concluded his message by reminding that facts must prevail over political narrative: “The National Guard hadn’t even been deployed when Trump was already spreading his version. Facts matter,” he wrote in a subsequent post.
Meanwhile, organizations advocating for migrant rights announced new mobilizations for the coming days, while demanding that the federal government stop massive raids and avoid the use of military tactics in civilian areas.
