President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized the fiscal plan of Donald Trump’s government that was approved by the United States Congress and that provides more resources to increase the number of deportations of migrants. «We do not agree, migration should be addressed at its core, with cooperation for development,» she stated.
The fiscal plan approved by the House of Representatives of the United States includes a fund of $170 billion for immigration and border control. Among the agencies that will receive additional resources is the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which will have $29 billion (three times its budget), with the aim of expanding its detention and deportation efforts. Furthermore, there is an intention to increase the number of agents from 9,000 to nearly 20,000. President Sheinbaum remarked that migration flows are at their lowest numbers, evidenced by the fact that there were 220 encounters recorded at the border with the United States yesterday. «That is very few compared to the thousands that arrived just a few years ago; in reality, the migration entering is now very limited,» she stated. She emphasized that migrants contribute to the economy of the United States government, which is why they disagree with being treated as mere migrants.
«We do not agree with the discriminatory and persecutory acts against migrants, and this treatment as if they were criminals will cause significant harm to the economy of the United States,» she said.
She recalled that just a few days ago, President Donald Trump acknowledged that he has been approached to suspend deportations because there are sectors that are being affected. «We will always defend our migrant brothers, always,» she assured. The president commented that her government is strengthening the ‘Mexico, We Embrace You’ plan, particularly the assistance provided at the centers in Tapachula and Villahermosa. «We are enhancing it so that they are not subjected to any acts of corruption by customs or migration when entering our country, while simultaneously strengthening all consular assistance,» she stated.
