‘Alito’ Moreno and Morena legislators clash in session of the General Congress

Senator Alejandro Alito Moreno Cárdenas accused Morena of allowing the free trafficking of drugs in the country, calling them a «narco-dictatorship.»

«They went from an electoral alliance to a co-government with organized crime, which has brought nothing but violence and death to the country,» Moreno said during his speech at the opening session of the General Congress.

However, during his speech, he was interrupted six times by Morenistas who criticized his comments.

Protests by «Morenistas«

The Morenistas did not like the PRI’s position and accused the national leader of being a thug and called for his impeachment.

The PRI member criticized the lack of medicines in the country and commented that more than 60 million Mexicans do not have access to adequate health services.

«Morena will go down in history for destroying the country from public office, for implementing policies contrary to the national interest, which nullify the validity of democracy,» he declared.

In response to these statements, Moreno’s supporters were upset and organized the creation of banners and chants in protest.

«Porro, porro! (…) Alito, understand, the people don’t want you! Alito, understand, the people don’t want you!» could be heard in the venue.»Porro, porro! (…) Alito, understand, the people don’t want you! Alito, understand, the people don’t want you!» could be heard in the venue.

Even Representative Margarita García, from the Labor Party, stood behind the PRI member with a sign bearing Sheinbaum’s image and the words «Congratulations, President.»

For his part, the president of the Board of Directors, Sergio Gutiérrez, had no choice but to call the legislators to order.

«A call is made to the assembly, reminding everyone that speakers from various parliamentary groups are still waiting to speak. We ask everyone to listen to us. Once again, we ask everyone to remain calm,» he said.

Senator and national president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Alejandro «Alito» Moreno, was at the center of controversy after his speech in the plenary session. In a speech laden with unsubstantiated allegations, he made a series of direct accusations against the ruling party, Morena, and the government of the Fourth Transformation (4T).

Moreno used the term «narco-politicians» to refer to Morena legislators, accusing them of:

  1. «Making deals with criminals»: He claimed that «Morena is a cartel that made deals with criminals,» insinuating collusion between the ruling party and organized crime, but he did not provide any evidence to support his claims.
  2. «Destroying democracy»: He claimed that there is a «systematic strategy of persecution» against opponents, critical media outlets, autonomous bodies, and anyone who disagrees with the government.
  3. Exercising «State Terrorism»: He described Morena’s actions as a threat to the country’s «peace and territorial integrity.»
  4. Search for «submissive judges»: He asserted that the ruling party’s objective is to control the judiciary, eliminating its independence.

Moreno stirred up emotions when he referred to Morena senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña, whom he called «cynical and corrupt.»

The response from the PRI members

The speech ended and it was Senator Geovanna Bañuelos’ turn, but the PRI members decided to take revenge in the same way.

Alito and his party colleagues went to the offices of the parliamentary group to assemble banners and megaphones with the aim of disrupting the session.

For 14 minutes, they sounded the sirens on their megaphones until the leaders of the political parties approached to talk and reached a new agreement on civility that was recognized by all parties.

With the agreement on the table, the session resumed, but not before hearing the latest threat from the PRI member:

«If they insult or offend us again, it will be unfortunate that it does not go beyond the session,» he said.

Meanwhile, former Senate President Gerardo Fernández Noroña commented on Moreno’s statements, defining Moreno’s intervention as impartial conduct that allows provocation and offense.

«He provoked from the podium and now, like a good troublemaker, he interrupts the General Congress session when he spoke for fifteen minutes without being interrupted in that way,» Noroña said on social media.

The former president of the Senate reported that he requested to speak during the session, but his request was ignored.

Alito Moreno It’s leading the response that Mexico is waiting for from the opposition.
