SAN DIEGO — Garrett Mitchell tripled and scored the tiebreaking run in the fifth inning, then caught Manny Machado’s drive at the wall in the eighth, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Diego Padres 3–1 on Wednesday night, the Associated Press reported. Milwaukee won the best-of-five National League division series in four games. Mitchell also drove in Sal Frelick with the Brewers’ first run. The win snapped a 12-game postseason road losing streak that dated to 2018. “Just so proud of these guys,” Frelick said. “After the first loss, it really starts to creep in that you don’t want to go back for a Game 5.”
The Dodgers are waiting. Los Angeles beat Atlanta 4–1 on Wednesday, Andy Pages driving in two with a bases-loaded single in the seventh, and won that series three games to one. Game 1 of the championship series is Sunday night in Milwaukee. The Associated Press said ace Jacob Misiorowski is lined up to start. The Dodgers swept the Brewers last October on the way to a second straight World Series. The Brewers won 103 games. They are four wins from a second pennant.
