AAA put the U.S. diesel average at $6.5050 a gallon on Sunday — $6.51 to the cent — and wrote it as the highest recorded average the association has ever printed. Date: Sept. 20, 2026. Yesterday: $6.4866. A week ago: $6.20. A year ago: $3.70. Regular gasoline is $4.4761, unchanged to the penny. The Economy desk files a record that moved overnight, again.

Moscow’s refinery burned this morning. Hormuz is still a war. Distillate is still short. A $5,000 dividend does not fill a tank. Xi is due at the White House on Wednesday. The gallon did not wait for him.
