AAA put the U.S. diesel average at $6.4866 a gallon on Saturday — $6.49 to the cent — and wrote it as the highest recorded average the association has ever printed. Date on the board: Sept. 19, 2026. Yesterday: $6.4476, which had been the record for one day. A week ago: $6.16. A year ago: $3.71. Regular gasoline is $4.4759. The Economy desk files a high that did not hold the weekend.
Hormuz is still closed. Distillate is still short. A hundred gallons: about $649, against $371 a year ago. Trump signed Lindsey Graham’s Russia bill Friday night and blamed Ukraine for the American gallon. A $5,000 dividend does not fill a tank. A very good call from Irapuato does not either.
