WASHINGTON — Democrats lead the races for governor in Texas, Iowa, Ohio and Alaska, a month before Election Day, according to polls by The New York Times and Siena University released Sunday. The Times said the numbers reflect unhappiness with President Trump and the economy. Kansas is the one state in the set where the Republican is ahead.
In Texas, Gina Hinojosa leads Gov. Greg Abbott, 49 percent to 46. In Iowa, Rob Sand, the state auditor, leads Zach Lahn, 52 to 41, for the seat Gov. Kim Reynolds is leaving. In Ohio, Amy Acton leads Vivek Ramaswamy, 49 to 45. In Alaska, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins leads a divided Republican field, 40 percent to Bernadette Wilson’s 20. In Kansas, Ty Masterson leads Cindy Holscher, 49 to 44. Interviewers spoke with likely voters from Sept. 22 through Oct. 1, about 600 in each state and about 500 in Alaska.
The Politics desk files the polls. Jay Clayton’s appointment is the next note, not the front. The prison chief’s resignation is on the states page. The vote in Brazil is on the world page.
