Greenland: permanent security. Denmark keeps the island. The text is not out.

President Trump posted the victory Friday evening: an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States “permanent control over security, and all other needs,” at no cost to Washington, an “Infinite Life” pact. Adversaries may not base, troop, or make sensitive investments without written American approval. The World desk files a deal that is not annexation, and a president who had threatened to take the island by force.
Denmark’s Mette Frederiksen: it will be signed at the U.N. General Assembly next week. It recognizes the Kingdom’s sovereignty and Greenlanders’ right to self-determination. Parliamentary action is still required in Copenhagen and Nuuk. A U.S. official: permanent access, basing, overflight; China and Russia out. Secretary Rubio called it historic. No text of the agreement has been released. The island stays Danish on the map.
Permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland.
The World desk files Friday night as it is: permanent security on a map Denmark still holds, a signing that is not yet a statute, and a conquest that stopped at a press post. Xi is due in Washington next week. The Arctic did not wait for him.
