BAGHDAD — The United States has finished pulling its troops out of Iraq. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Wednesday that the troops and their equipment had completed an orderly departure from the last air base where they were still present, in the north. He called it the end of a 12-year campaign that defeated the Islamic State as an organized military threat in Iraq and across the region.
The Associated Press led with the statement. It did not name the base. The World desk files the departure, not a guess about what fills the ramp. The war page this morning is the child killed outside Kyiv.
This milestone reflects the success of a 12-year campaign that defeated ISIS as an organized military threat.
