MIAMI — Hurricane Isaias was a Category 3 storm at 10 a.m. Central time Friday, the National Hurricane Center said in Advisory No. 12. The center was near latitude 27.7 north, longitude 87.3 west, about 195 miles south of Pensacola and about 145 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River. Maximum sustained winds were near 120 miles an hour. The storm was moving north-northeast near 16 miles an hour. On that track it was expected to reach the northern Gulf Coast this afternoon and make landfall in the warning area this evening, at or near major-hurricane strength.

A hurricane warning was in effect from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to the Bay and Gulf County line in Florida. The center said life-threatening storm surge and devastating winds were likely along the Florida Panhandle and the Alabama coast. A tropical-storm warning covered the coast from the Jefferson and Plaquemines Parish line in Louisiana to west of Ocean Springs. The Associated Press reported Wednesday that Trump hoped the storm would not keep him from a college football game in Alabama on Saturday.
