KYIV — Russian airstrikes killed one person and wounded two in the Ukrainian capital on Friday and forced the closure of two bridges over the Dnipro that link the two sides of the city. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said drones hit the Southern Bridge on Thursday. City authorities closed that bridge and the Paton Bridge to traffic on Friday morning, with partial limits on a third. Reuters witnesses said traffic was moving again around midday.

A drone also hit a school. Pupils were in a shelter and were not hurt. In Kharkiv, a guided bomb killed two people and wounded 28, the regional governor said. Russia’s defense ministry said its drones hit a Kyiv bridge, a power station, the port of Izmail, and a cargo vessel, and that the targets were military.

A senior Ukrainian official told Reuters the strikes on bridges, data centers, and power sites appeared to follow an order by President Vladimir Putin last month to drop limits on the air campaign. Ukraine said its drones hit a Lukoil refinery in Volgograd and a site in Samara. Putin has said those refinery strikes have cost Russia 1 percent of gross domestic product. The war stays off the front. The appointment is the lead.
