NASA says the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope now has propellant for at least 22 years of science — more than double the 10-year fuel budget. Jamie Dunn, Goddard: exquisite planning, a precise SpaceX launch, a first mid-course correction that used about 40 pounds of hydrazine against 441 budgeted. The Science desk files a spacecraft still en route to L2, not a picture from the sky yet.

Launch was Aug. 30 on a Falcon Heavy. The observatory flew light; tanks were filled to the cap. Extra fuel at the pad: about four years. The accurate first burn: about four more. The second correction and insertion should add another four if they stay as quiet. Arrival: early December. Designed to be refueled in space. Not required yet.
