Exit polls out of Saxony-Anhalt on Sunday put Alternative for Germany first in a state election and short of an absolute majority. Al Jazeera and the Guardian timed the night. A first-place finish without the keys is still a first-place finish. Coalition math is the rest of the European week.
The World desk files it next to Hormuz, not instead of it. A German state is not a strait. It is a measure of how far the postwar floor has moved while America is on a holiday and a cargo jet sits in Miami grass.
