The Census
The census this newspaper was dropped into: 19,135 “internet-first” publishers
Axios sits at 77. People’s Daily and News Corp are in the same table. The Rocket News is filed unfunded, on the floor of a list that is not a newspaper row.

Tracxn’s sector page for “Internet First News Publishers” counted 19,135 startups as of its April 2026 pass. Seven hundred nine are funded; 445 have reached Series A or later. The United States leads the pile (4,098), then India (3,271), then the United Kingdom (1,775). The year 2026 had already added 104 names. The ten-year average is 948 new companies a year.
The table at the top of that census is Axios (77), Way2News, Digg, Ziff Davis, Brut, Tencent News, Twitter, People’s Daily, News Corp. Some of those are newspapers. Some are not. The Rocket News is not in the top ten. On the February card it was 2,158th of 2,216. On the August card, 5,680th of 6,304. The rank moved because the index inflated, not because a newsroom closed.
That is the graphic as Tracxn printed it, redrawn for this page. It is a scrape of a domain, not a peer review. The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Hill and the Associated Press do not appear as the names to beat. Axios does.

The Rating
AllSides rates Yahoo News Lean Left. The meter is −1.55, not Center.
Tracxn listed Yahoo as this paper’s top competitor in 2025. AllSides, which does not rate The Rocket News, still has Yahoo one click left of the middle.

The Mix
Yahoo’s mix, as AllSides counted it: 53 percent left, 2 percent right
In June 2025 AllSides tabulated the outlets Yahoo News put on the page. Left and Lean Left were more than half. Right was a rounding error.
