Washington asked for a delay. Xi is in town, and G20 trade ministers meet in Milwaukee next week. There is no new date.

MEXICO CITY — The fourth round of USMCA talks between the United States and Mexico will not happen this month. A Mexican official said Thursday that the two sides agreed to announce a date in the coming weeks, and that daily work with the U.S. Trade Representative continues. People close to the talks told El País that the Trump administration cited logistics. There is no tentative date.
The round was first set for early September, then for the end of the month. It now sits behind Xi Jinping’s meetings in Washington on Thursday and a gathering of G20 trade ministers in Milwaukee from September 30 to October 1. El País and La Silla Rota both led their business pages with the slip.
In the coming weeks we will announce when the fourth round will be.
President Sheinbaum has said the United States put about 90 topics on the table. The first list, she has said, was about 54, and the items do not stay still: a digital-platform law can be passed and then the argument moves to whether it is enforced.
