US has begun declassifying documents on UFOs and extraterrestrial life

The Pentagon confirmed the initiative previously announced by Trump, describing it as “historic and unprecedented”

WASHINGTON.—After President Donald Trump announced last February a process to make information about UFOs and extraterrestrial life more transparent, the U.S. Department of Defense announced this Friday that it began declassifying government files on so-called Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), with photos and videos made publicly available on its website.

The Pentagon, led by Secretary Pete Hegseth, announced that it will move forward with the initial release of new “never-before-seen  as part of the Presidential Declassification and FANI Encounter Reporting System,” and that it will add additional material on a “continuous basis”. The announcement quickly generated significant interest in the United States.

The first batch of declassified files consists of blurry photos and a few videos that, in some cases, show oddly shaped objects. One of them, featuring an eight-pointed star-shaped object, was among those that generated the most buzz.

The images come not only from the United States, but also include photos taken in the Aegean Sea, the Persian Gulf, the East China Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Gulf of Oman, Germany, Greece, Djibouti, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, and Mexico, among other locations. There are even documents and photos taken by NASA on the Moon.

A total of 162 files were uploaded to the website, including old State Department cables, FBI documents, and NASA transcripts of manned spaceflights.

Through his Truhan Social network, Trump highlighted the release of the first batch of files “for public review and study”, and emphasized the “effort to achieve total and maximum transparency.”

“While previous administrations failed to be transparent on this issue, with these new documents and videos, people can decide for themselves: ‘What on earth is going on?’ Have fun and enjoy!,” the president wrote.“Mientras que las administraciones anteriores no lograron ser transparentes en este asunto, con estos nuevos documentos y videos, la gente puede decidir por sí misma: ‘¿Qué diablos está pasando?’. ¡Diviértanse y disfruten!“, escribió el presidente.

The measure covers the White House and numerous federal agencies, including the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Department of Energy, the Department of the Army’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the  Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command reported a UAP resembling a soccer ball-shaped object near Japan, as shown in one of the images released by the Pentagon.war.gov/ufo

“This is a historic and unprecedented initiative that requires coordination among dozens of agencies, as well as the review of tens of millions of records—many of which exist only in paper form—spanning several decades.& “Given the magnitude of this task, the Department of War will release new materials on an ongoing basis,” the Pentagon said, “as they are discovered and declassified, releasing new batches every few weeks.”

The War Department added that the materials pertain to unsolved cases. “This means that the government has been unable to reach a definitive conclusion regarding the nature of the observed phenomena,” it explained.

“This situation may be due to a variety of reasons, including a lack of sufficient data. For this reason, the Department of War welcomes the contribution of analysis, information, and expertise from the private sector,” the agency stated, adding that it will continue to produce independent reports on resolved UAP cases, as required by law.

In one of the videos, which is two minutes and 17 seconds long, the U.S. Central Command  (Centcom) presents footage captured by an infrared sensor aboard a U.S. military platform in 2020, with an accompanying report noting the “intrusion into the firing range” of a FANI, described as a “white, solid object moving erratically over the water”.

Another file is a NASA photo from the Apollo 17 mission, taken in 1972, which shows three points arranged in a triangular formation. The Pentagon notes that “there is no consensus on the nature of the anomaly,” but that a new preliminary analysis suggests it could be a “physical object”.

Last February, Trump had instructed his administration to begin declassifying files related to aliens, extraterrestrial life, and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), just hours after lashing out at former President Barack Obama  for claiming that aliens were “real.”

The measure, the Republican leader at the time noted, was prompted by “the tremendous interest shown” by Americans in learning more about the secret files related to this issue.

“For decades, sightings of state-of-the-art spy planes, drones, low-orbit satellites, and weather balloons have fueled theories about UFOs, the most famous case being that of a secret military flight test base known as Area 51,” noted The New York Times.
