DETROIT — Haley Stevens, the Democrat who lost Michigan’s Senate primary, endorsed Republican Mike Rogers on Sunday, the Associated Press reported. She had been uninvited to a joint event that day with Abdul El-Sayed, who beat her in August. She appeared with Rogers at a service at Perfecting Church and then announced the endorsement.
“Our Democratic nominee for Senate said I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away,” Stevens said in a video. “And he’s right. And that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today.” She also said, “This is a weight off my shoulders, I’m being straight with everybody.” Rogers said, “I’m honored.”

El-Sayed, asked later Sunday, said, “At the end of the day I actually don’t think about Haley Stevens,” and, “None of this matters.” Chuck Schumer, the Senate Democratic leader, wrote: “This is a despicable betrayal from Rep. Stevens.”
The photograph is Sunday, Nov. 1, at Perfecting Church in Detroit. Jose Juarez made it for the Associated Press. Rogers and Stevens are both in the frame. It is the service, not the video.
