AAA put the U.S. diesel average at $6.2694 a gallon on Tuesday, a record, above Monday’s $6.2301. Regular gasoline is $4.3289. Before the Iran war it was $3.76. Up more than 66 percent. The Economy desk files the workhorse fuel on the morning a truce did not exist and the Court said the mail ballots go out.
Trump said Ukraine’s refinery strikes were the shortage. Analysts said Hormuz. Salalah stayed postponed. Reuters: even if Kyiv and Moscow stop hitting energy, the crunch does not reverse this year. Distillate inventories are below the five-year range. Eight weeks from a midterm. No president has faced November with diesel above $6.
