LOS ANGELES — Google wants Hollywood to stop treating its technology as a threat. Through a partnership with Range Media Partners called 100 Zeros, the company is funding films, television, and short experiments meant to put tools such as Immersive View and its artificial-intelligence systems in front of creators, The New York Times reported.
The effort includes shorts. One of them, Sweetwater, stars Kyra Sedgwick. In June, Google DeepMind put $75 million into the independent studio A24. Executives argue the work can support writers and directors rather than replace them, after strikes and lawsuits that treated the technology as a substitute for crews.
The Friday briefing at The Times still had the piece on the list. The appointment of an intelligence chief to watch the same technology is the lead of this paper.
