The Trump administration on Sunday renewed its emergency appeal to the Supreme Court to let the Postal Service enforce new restrictions on mail ballots in time for the midterms. A federal judge had extended an order blocking the rule. States are already sending ballots. The AP timed the filing to Sunday. CNN this morning: barcodes on envelopes, tracking, dozens of states in the challenge.
Mail voting has tripled in twenty years. The White House wants the rule before November 3. The Court is being asked to move on a holiday weekend while Missouri’s map is also on Kavanaugh’s desk. The Politics page files two clocks and one election.

Harmeet Dhillon’s civil-rights shop at Justice, NBC reported, is asking staff to join a thousand monitors aimed at fraud, not the old voter-rights brief. That is a second machine pointed at the same November.
