MEXICO CITY — The New York Times printed it on Friday, page A6: Mexico, once the country President Trump most liked to attack, is now described as one of his closest partners. The reporting, filed Wednesday, says the two governments have pushed illegal crossings to historic lows, gone after cartels together, and become each other's largest trading partners. Canada, the same story says, is the border that broke.
President Claudia Sheinbaum said last week that a long call with Trump produced agreements on several trade issues. Hours later he told a rally the two countries were very close to a deal. The Mexico desk files what the American paper printed this morning. It does not take the note from a Mexican front page.
