COLUMBUS — Vivek Ramaswamy will spend $4 million to put his estranged-mother advertisement on television across Ohio. The New York Times reported the buy on Tuesday, citing Axios, in the paper dated Wednesday. Ramaswamy confirmed Tuesday evening that the ad is his. In it, Donna Arthur says of her daughter, Amy Acton, the Democrat running for governor: “Don’t let her become your governor. If you think she’ll make your life better, you’re fooling yourself.” Acton’s brother, Philip Stearns, called the spot “despicable.” Jonathan Ewing, the campaign manager, told Axios, “This is a campaign-ending moment for Amy Acton.”

The race is for November. This note is the advertisement and the money behind it. It is not a poll, and it is not a result.

Don't let her become your governor.

The photograph is Saturday, Oct. 17, in a barn in Woodsfield. Ramaswamy speaks into a microphone, one hand on his hip, a large American flag behind him and a red Vivek for Ohio sign to the side. Another man stands beside him. The crowd is in front of the stage, and a green tractor sits at the left. It is him talking, four days before the ad story. It is not the advertisement. Donna Arthur is not in the frame, and neither is Amy Acton.
