TEXAS — Two congressional seats that Republicans redrew, and that President Trump carried by 10 points in 2024, are close, a Washington Post-Schar School poll published Friday found. In the 35th District the race is extremely close between Republican Carlos De La Cruz and Democrat Johnny Garcia, both political newcomers. Larry Sabato had moved it to a toss-up. On Friday the Cook Political Report did the same. In the 34th, along the Gulf from Corpus Christi to the Rio Grande Valley, Representative Vicente Gonzalez, a Democrat, leads Republican Eric Flores, 50 percent to 43 percent.
The poll was taken Oct. 14 to 19, among 626 likely voters in the 34th and 605 in the 35th. The election is Nov. 3. This note is the poll. It is not a count of ballots.
Trump carried them by 10 points.
The photograph is early voting in Texas. People walk past a sign that reads Early Voting and Votación Temprana. De La Cruz, Garcia, Gonzalez and Flores are not in the frame. It is not the poll, and it is not a courthouse.
