AUSTIN — Reuters reported Wednesday that state Representative James Talarico won the Senate race in Texas on Tuesday. He defeated Ken Paxton, the candidate President Trump backed. Reuters said it ends a 32-year statewide losing streak for Democrats, and that no Democrat had won statewide in Texas since 1994. Talarico is a four-term legislator. Reuters said Republicans spent more than $316 million to retain the seat.
The Associated Press, in the Price and Kim story updated at 1:44 a.m. Eastern, also recorded the Senate result and a second Texas call: Gina Hinojosa defeated Gov. Greg Abbott. AP said Trump posted that Abbott was to blame and called him a “RINO.” This note does not add the Senate result to the governor’s race. They are two calls.
