MIAMI — Hurricane Trudy was still at sea on Sunday morning. The National Hurricane Center’s intermediate advisory at 5 a.m. Mountain time placed the center near latitude 18.9 north, longitude 106.6 west, about 150 miles west of Manzanillo and about 120 miles south-southwest of Cabo Corrientes. Maximum sustained winds were near 105 mph. The minimum pressure was 970 millibars. The storm was moving northwest at 10 mph. A turn toward the west-northwest is expected tonight. On that track the center stays near the coast of southwestern and west-central Mexico through this evening, then moves south of Baja California Sur on Monday and Tuesday. It had not come ashore.
A hurricane warning is in effect from Manzanillo north to Cabo Corrientes. A tropical storm warning runs from north of Cabo Corrientes to San Blas. With this advisory, Mexico discontinued all watches and warnings for the coast south of Manzanillo. The 2 a.m. discussion said the eye had become more distinct and that deep convection was better organized, especially on the west side. Some further strengthening was possible this morning. Shear and drier air should start to weaken the storm later today. Damaging winds, a dangerous storm surge, and heavy rain were still expected along the warned coast.
The center of Trudy will remain near the coast through this evening.
The photograph is a GOES satellite frame from Sunday morning, 14:40 UTC. The eye is over the Pacific. The Mexican coast is the land to the right of the circulation. It is not a street in Manzanillo. The center was still offshore when the advisory was written.
