WASHINGTON — A federal judge on Tuesday extended an order keeping reporters for CNN, MS NOW and Politico inside the White House, the Associated Press and Reuters reported. U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, whom Trump nominated, wrote that the outlets are likely to win their free-speech and due-process claims. The bans covered 78 reporters. Trump announced them in a Sept. 18 social-media post, with no notice, and called the coverage “fake news.”

Kelly wrote that Trump’s own remarks showed the ban was about reporting he considered biased, not about the national-security reasons government lawyers later offered in court. “Simply put, that is unlawful viewpoint discrimination,” the judge wrote. He added that no one should read the decision as saying the president’s complaints are meritless. The injunction holds while the case is pending, three weeks before the Nov. 3 midterms.
