MILWAUKEE — The Brewers held off the Rays, 3-2, in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night. Trevor Megill struck out Jonny DeLuca with runners on second and third. The out came after Liam Hicks’s grounder was first ruled a game-ending double play and then overturned: shortstop Cooper Pratt’s right foot was off the bag when he took a high throw from second baseman Brice Turang. Tampa Bay was 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position. “It’s good to get the first win out of the way,” Megill said. “That’s where all the nerves are at.”
Milwaukee scored two in the first against Nick Martinez. Christian Yelich’s triple drove in the first of them. Jackson Chourio singled home Cooper Pratt for an insurance run in the seventh. Jacob Misiorowski allowed one run and four hits over five innings, the Associated Press reported. He is not in this photograph, so the plate is not his. Kevin Cash, the Rays’ manager, said they were one swing away from taking the lead. Neither club has won a Series. This is Game 1, not the series.
