LOS ANGELES — The Milwaukee Brewers are going to the World Series for the first time since 1982. They beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6–4 on Thursday night in Game 4 and swept the National League Championship Series, the Associated Press reported. Shohei Ohtani’s three-run homer had put Los Angeles ahead 4–0 in the second. Garrett Mitchell led off the sixth with a home run, 409 feet, off Tanner Scott, and Milwaukee led. David Hamilton, the No. 9 hitter, added a two-out solo shot off Edwin Díaz in the ninth. Aaron Ashby finished with three scoreless innings for the save. JoJo Romero got the win.
“We weren’t coming in to play patty-cake,” manager Pat Murphy said. “We were hungry.” Mitchell called it surreal. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, “Those guys played flawless. You got to sometimes tip your cap.” Milwaukee won 103 games in the regular season. The opener is Oct. 23, at home, after a week off. This note does not name the American League opponent. That series was not decided in the copy the desk used.
