Shirley Weber, California’s secretary of state, put out a statement after the Supreme Court killed Trump’s Postal Service screen. “Now, we can finally move forward and get back to what we do best: conducting our elections without a dark cloud hanging over us — fairly, openly, for the people, by the people.” Every voter in California gets a mail ballot. The States desk files Sacramento, not Washington.
The USPS rule would have made states send lists. Weber’s office would have had to rebuild a system weeks from November. Voting is already underway. The Times/Siena poll this morning has Democrats with House momentum. Newsom’s maps are still the other California fight.
Now, we can finally move forward and get back to what we do best.
