LOS ANGELES — U.S. District Judge David O. Carter on Wednesday refused a Trump administration request to stop California from processing the ballots of up to 20,000 people the government says are likely noncitizens, the Associated Press reported. More than 3.7 million people have already voted in the state. Carter wrote that the request would “wreak havoc” on an election already underway. He also wrote: “Eroded trust in our democracy is irreparable. Once a vote is segregated, lasting harm has occurred.” The Los Angeles Times reported the administration said it would appeal.
