AUSTIN, Texas — Early voting is running well ahead of the last midterm, the Associated Press reported Friday, five days before Election Day. The wire’s count is sharpest in Texas, where voters are deciding Senate, House and governor’s races. More than 6.3 million Texans had voted early as of Wednesday, compared with 4.2 million at the same point four years ago, a 50 percent increase. Advance voting is also up more than 30 percent from that point in Maine, Michigan, North Carolina and Kansas, all with competitive Senate races. In South Carolina, where voters are choosing a successor to the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, early voting is up 83 percent.
The photograph is Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Cleveland. Sue Ogrocki made it for the Associated Press. People are waiting in line for early ballots. It is not Texas. It is not Wednesday’s count of 6.3 million.
