DNIPRO, Ukraine — A jet-powered Russian drone hit two trains stopped at a station in central Ukraine on Thursday, killing at least 13 people and injuring 10 others, the Associated Press reported. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called it a horrific attack on passenger trains in Dnipro. This desk is printing the Associated Press count. It is not adding a second tally from another desk.
The local truce around Russian-held Oleshky is not that strike. The Associated Press said the ceasefire had stretched into a third day. Ukraine’s human-rights ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, said it had been in place for 54 hours, that the parties were adhering to it, and that no violations had been reported. He said aid deliveries were due to begin Friday. His Russian counterpart, Yana Lantratova, said the truce was holding and that engineers were clearing mines from the roads. Reuters, in a separate dispatch, quoted President Vladimir Putin at a summit in Moscow saying relief supplies would begin reaching civilians on Thursday and Friday, “with the support, incidentally, of the First Lady of the United States.” Those are two wires and two clocks. This note does not merge them into one.
A horrific attack.
The photograph is from Ukraine’s emergency service, of a damaged carriage at the Dnipro station. A man stands with a phone. It is Thursday’s strike. It is not the road into Oleshky, and Melania Trump is not in the frame.
