WASHINGTON — Reuters reported Friday that President Trump named Stephen Miller, 41, as his chief of staff. Miller replaces Susie Wiles. The change takes effect Monday. The Associated Press, on its Friday live file, said the same: Miller, a key architect of the administration’s hard-line immigration policies, takes the job days after Republicans lost control of Congress. AP called Wiles the longest-serving White House chief of staff and the first woman in the post, and said she would keep working for Trump’s political organization.
In a social-media post, Reuters reported, Trump called Miller “one of my most trusted advisors” and said Wiles had done “an outstanding job.” A second Reuters dispatch, a profile, said Miller has been deputy chief of staff and homeland security adviser in the second term, and that he was the architect of some of the toughest domestic policies. Reuters said Wiles, 69, submitted her resignation Thursday night and will move to the political operation, according to a White House official. She was the first woman to serve as chief of staff.
