KYIV — Ukraine struck oil facilities in St. Petersburg on Sunday, and the terminal burned. Reuters reported that local authorities said one person was killed and 15 were injured in the attack on oil sites, logistics, and data centers in the city and the Leningrad region. Governor Alexander Beglov said fires broke out at the St. Petersburg oil terminal, an oil depot, and industrial warehouses. The retailer Ozon said its logistics hub in the city was on fire. The internet company VK said a data center in the Leningrad region was hit by drones and that services were still available. The Ukrainian drone maker Fire Point said the military had struck a VK data center near the city. Russia’s Defense Ministry said air defenses downed 1,015 Ukrainian drones overnight. The New York Times reported the terminal strike and said it was Kyiv’s second reported hit on Russian oil infrastructure since President Volodymyr Zelensky said last week that Ukraine would resume those attacks.
Zelensky wrote on Sunday that in the week since President Trump announced an energy ceasefire, Russia “has deliberately attacked Ukraine’s energy and oil and gas sectors 76 times.” He said the latest strikes hit substations in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa. Neither Kyiv nor Moscow confirmed the ceasefire Trump announced. The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told the Tass news agency, in an account carried by Reuters, that Russia answers Ukrainian attacks with systematic, large-scale strikes. “The Kyiv regime is resisting. But this cannot change the course of events,” he said. The Associated Press also reported the blaze at the St. Petersburg oil sites and Kyiv’s launch of more than 1,000 drones. This desk is not adding a death toll inside Ukraine. Sunday’s wire accounts used here do not give one.

The photograph is Sunday’s fire at the oil terminal: flame under a column of black smoke, a highway bridge in front of it, the water in the foreground. It is not Zelensky. It is not Saturday’s strike on the Ukrainian grid. It is the terminal local authorities said was burning.
