Russian strikes left hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians without power on Sunday, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said, while Russian authorities reported major damage to an industrial site after Ukrainian drone attacks on the Nizhny Novgorod region, Reuters reported. A six-day local ceasefire held on its final day around the Russian-controlled town of Oleshky. There was no letup elsewhere on the front, and both sides kept up long-range attacks.
Zelenskiy said Russia had hit power infrastructure in four Ukrainian regions overnight, cutting electricity to hundreds of thousands of households. “The intensity of the strikes is very high, and the Russians are seeking to maximally exploit the deficit of ballistic missile interceptors,” he said on Telegram. He said Ukraine had hit the Kamensky plant in Russia’s Rostov region, which he said made Russian missiles. Moscow did not comment on that report. In Nizhny Novgorod, Governor Gleb Nikitin said a large overnight drone attack caused “significant damage” to an industrial facility. He did not name the site. The region is home to the NORSI oil refinery. This desk is not saying the refinery was the target.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had downed 235 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions overnight. Ukraine’s air force said it had shot down 371 of 433 long-range drones Russia launched since Saturday evening. Those are two counts. They are not added together. Dozens of Russian drones were still in the air Sunday morning, the air force said, and Kyiv had issued six drone alerts since midnight. The Nizhny Novgorod government, Interfax reported, told drivers to “buy fuel only as needed and avoid panic buying.” Kyiv did not immediately claim the Nizhny Novgorod strike. On Friday, Russia said Ukraine had resumed strikes on refineries and accused Kyiv of ignoring a request from President Trump to stop attacks he has blamed for the price of diesel. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, on state television Sunday, did not mention Nizhny Novgorod. He said Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries were adding to imbalances in the global fuel market.
The photograph is Oct. 31, a fire at a private industrial plant in the Poltava region. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine made it. Reuters, on Sunday, did not name the four regions and did not publish this frame. No face is named.
