Trump asks the Court to let the Postal Service restrict mail voting

The president took his fight over how Americans will vote this fall back to the Supreme Court on Thursday, asking the justices to erase a lower-court block on a Postal Service plan that would make mail ballots harder to move. The White House frames it as housekeeping. Election lawyers frame it as a thumb on the scale with fifty-one days of calendar still to burn.

Mail voting is not a theory. It is how millions of Americans, including service members and the old, actually cast a ballot. A postal rule that looks clerical in a brief looks like a closed window in a precinct. The Court has already shown, this week, that it will split 5–4 on questions that used to be called facilities management — including a ballroom at the White House.
