President Claudia Sheinbaum gave the Grito to more than 300,000 in the Zócalo on Tuesday night. City officials called it historic — 20,000 above last year. At 22:50 she took the flag on the balcony of Palacio Nacional. Heroines first: Josefa Ortiz Téllez-Girón, Leona Vicario, Gertrudis Bocanegra. Then the migrants. Then the cry. The Mexico desk files a plaza that was full two hours early.
Wednesday she reviewed 16,000 troops as commander. “México no será colonia ni protectorado de nadie, México no se doblega, no se arrodilla y México nunca se vende.” Defense Secretary Trevilla Trejo at her side. The parade is loyalty to civilian command. North of the river: diesel $6.31, a Court fight, a poll.

The Mexico desk files the 16th as it is: a shout, a column of troops, and a sovereignty she will not sign away.
