MIAMI — Tropical Storm Trudy was weaker on Monday morning, and Mexico's coast was no longer under a watch or a warning. The National Hurricane Center's advisory at 8 a.m. Mountain time, advisory number 25, placed the center near latitude 19.5 north, longitude 108.5 west, about 190 miles west-southwest of Cabo Corrientes. Maximum sustained winds were near 60 mph. The minimum pressure was 999 millibars. The storm was moving west-southwest at 7 mph. A turn toward the northwest is expected on Tuesday. The center had not come ashore.
The discussion said convection had reignited, with very cold cloud tops north and east of the center, and that westerly shear of about 15 mph was pulling at the storm. Weakening is expected over the next two days. Trudy is forecast to become a post-tropical cyclone by early Tuesday and to dissipate within about three days. Large swells will keep hitting the southwest and west-central coast today. The center said the surf and the rip currents are life-threatening. Sunday's hurricane warning, from Manzanillo to Cabo Corrientes, is no longer up.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
The photograph is a GOES GEOCOLOR frame from Monday morning. Baja California is the peninsula at the top. A bright circulation sits off the southwest coast. It is the satellite, not a street in Manzanillo, and not Sunday's tighter shot of the eye.
