WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Associated Press reported that President Trump said Saturday he had offered the White House press secretary job to Dana White, his friend and the chief executive of the UFC. Trump was at his golf club in Florida. He posted that he made the offer to “the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior.” He asked White to bring UFC fighters as assistants. “We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left. Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”

White was in London on Saturday for a boxing event. Asked at a news conference about the post, he said he planned to fly to Washington and meet Trump on Monday at the White House. Asked how he would balance the job with the positions he already has, he said, “Yeah, I got a lot of jobs already.” He declined to say what he and Trump had already discussed, and added, “I’m sure I’ll have more to talk about after that.” Before the news conference he shared, on Instagram, a picture of Trump’s post and a picture of himself at the White House briefing-room podium with the words “On to the next chapter.” The AP said he did not make it clear that he was taking the job. The White House and a spokesperson for the UFC did not respond Saturday. This desk does not print that he accepted, and it does not print that he declined. Those sentences are not in the AP story.

Dana, please take the job!

The post has been empty since Karoline Leavitt left at the end of August. Katie Zacharia’s only briefing lasted five days. The AP also noted Friday’s staff change: Stephen Miller replaces Susie Wiles as chief of staff. That note is already in this paper.
