WASHINGTON — Reuters reported Friday that two senior Justice Department officials resigned that day. Jason Reding Quiñones, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and John Eisenberg, head of the National Security Division. Harmeet Dhillon, who led the Civil Rights Division, had resigned on Thursday. Reuters said Quiñones’s office was assigned the look back at past criminal investigations of President Trump, including the classified-documents case and the 2016 Russia inquiry, and that the investigation sought to establish that the president was the victim of a long-running criminal conspiracy. Reuters said the Miami office was at the front of the pressure campaigns on Venezuela and Cuba and brought charges against former Cuban president Raúl Castro.

The Associated Press, in a story by Eric Tucker and Alanna Durkin Richer, reported that the resignation followed frustrations in Washington with his management of the office leading the so-called “grand conspiracy” investigation. The people who described those frustrations spoke on the condition of anonymity. Quiñones wrote that he is leaving with “immense pride in what we accomplished together and profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve our great Nation.” Attorney General Todd Blanche said the department is grateful for his leadership, including the indictment of Raúl Castro. This desk does not add a reason that is not in those two accounts.
