DUBAI — Reuters reported Thursday afternoon that Iran said three more tankers had been damaged in the Strait of Hormuz that day. The Revolutionary Guards, who Reuters said do not usually acknowledge firing on merchant ships, said two tankers had struck naval mines and another had caught fire. This desk prints that as Tehran’s account, not as a confirmed toll. The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency separately reported that a vessel was struck by two unidentified projectiles late Wednesday, and that at least five vessels have reported incidents since Sunday, Nov. 1. Reuters said UKMTO counted 35 vessels hit in October, the most of any month of the war. This desk does not add Thursday’s claim to October’s count.
Qatar, Reuters reported, said the United States and Iran are reviewing proposals to bridge differences. Vice President Vance blamed the Republican losses on the war. Reuters did not quote a new sentence from him in that dispatch, and this note does not invent one. Monday’s Qeshm strikes stay in Monday’s note. Wednesday’s embassy anniversary stays in Wednesday’s. There is no new confirmed strike in this note.
