Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, who chairs the National Governors Association, said Sunday on CNN that states cannot police frontier AI alone. He wants federal guardrails, bipartisan. “Having 50 different guidelines is not the most productive thing for us to be doing and thinking about.” He called Trump’s AI Force an “AI farce”: no specific responsibility, no guardrails, therefore not a force.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said his state already audits and wants a kill switch. It is not enough. Maryland will convene an AI summit with industry and labor in the coming weeks. The States desk files a governor who will not wait for a czar with no desk.
