Rep. Tom Tiffany, the Republican running for governor of Wisconsin, swam out of Lake Wausau on Saturday night. The Bonanza lost power on approach to the downtown airport. The pilot, Leonard Boltz, a retired Air Force man, put it in the water. “The pilot said we are going down. Pull your seat belt tight.” Ten seconds. They sat on the hull until it sank, then swam 100 to 150 feet to stand. The States desk files a splash, not a speech.

Twelve stitches above the right eye. Boltz took four. Fire crews in an airboat had them in sixteen minutes. Sunday at a Wausau firehouse he wiped his eyes and laughed. “God was watching over us.” Trump endorsed him. He said the landing will not stop the campaign. The plane is still in the lake. Buoys. No wake.
